Background:

Western blot analysis of p38 MAP kinase expression in Jurkat (A) and NIH/3T3 (B) whole cell lysates.

p38 MAP kinase (MAPK) is the mammalian homologue of the yeast HOG kinase and participates in a signaling cascade controlling cellular responses to cytokines and stress. Four isoforms of p38 MAP kinase, alpha, beta, gamma and delta, have been identified so far. Like the SAPK/JNK pathway, p38 MAP kinase is activated by a variety of cellular stresses including osmotic shock, inflammatory cytokines, lipopolysaccharides (LPS), UV light and growth factors. MKK3 and MKK6 activate p38 MAP kinase by phosphorylation at Thr180 and Tyr182. Activated p38 MAP kinase has been shown to phosphorylate and activate MAPKAP kinase 2 and to phosphorylate the transcription factors ATF-2, Max and MEF2.

Specificity/Sensitivity:

p38 (A-12) reacts with p38 MAP Kinase of mouse, rat and human origin by Western blotting, immunoprecipitation and immuno- histochemistry; non cross-reactive with other MAP kinases.

Source/Purification:

p38 (A-12) is a mouse monoclonal IgG₁ antibody corresponding to amino acids 213-360 mapping at the carboxy terminus of p38 of human origin.

Storage and Stability:

Each vial contains 100ul affinity purified mouse anti-p38 MAP Kinase antibody in a special stabilizer. Real time studies that this special stabilizer helped retain most of antibody activity for 24 months while store at 4℃.
