This gene is located within the Smith-Magenis syndrome region on chromosome 17. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2012] Function: May play a role in cell proliferation, differentiation and death. Subcellular Location: Cytoplasm. Tissue Specificity: Highest levels in skeletal muscle, heart and kidney. Low levels in colon, thymus, spleen, small intestine, lung and Leukocytes. Post-translational modifications: Polyubiquitinated; which induces proteolytic degradation and is impaired by interaction with RWDD1. Similarity: Belongs to the GTP1/OBG family.
